We are providing support to the hematology/oncology unit hosting young patients, and covering costs related to integrated medicine with the restorative nature of music and art therapy, dance, yoga, and guided meditation.
Children facing cancer require special consideration when it comes to playtime. This is a loving and warm environment where they are safe and free to explore and create in a space that is their own, benches along the windows providing a quiet spot for daydreaming and floor-to-ceiling glass panels offering a place for parents to view their fun.
Our collaboration continues at CHKD with the inspirational LET IT BE signage in The Benjamin Goldberg Playroom.
'Benjamin Goldberg was 8 years old when he was treated at CHKD. One of his favorite songs, Let It Be by The Beatles gently reminds us to fully embrace all that encompasses the here and now.'
Shedding the light on Integrative Medicine (IM) and its impact on our local children. We are proud to be partnering with CHKD to bring Dr. Suzi Tortora of MSKCC's (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center) Integrative Medicine Department to Hampton Roads, speaking on the importance of dance movement therapy (DMT).
Wendy shared DMT with our local medical community at Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters (CHKD) on January 23, 2020.
Wendy was chosen by her Alma Mater to be a part of the ODU's Strome Entrepreneurial Center's Notable Nonprofits & B-Corps speaker series.
In 2019, we completed our first project raising $20,000 for a home treatment option for children receiving immunotherapy infusions in their fight against leukemia.
Currently, children receiving this treatment must spend 28 days in the hospital to receive continuous infusions. However, CADD infusion backpacks allow a child to receive drug therapy in the comfort of their own home.
It is heartwarming to see the backpacks in the clinic where it all started for us—knowing the benefits of giving families normalcy when navigating the devastating world of childhood cancer. The CADD backpacks have already provided 224 days of treatment to the oncology patients at CHKD.
